Ottawa Date Night Ideas: A Local's Guide to the Best Venues

Plan a date in Ottawa with local favourites, from independent restaurants to intimate venues and shared experiences.
Flora Hall Brewing — The Glebe
Start with a pint at Flora Hall (37 Flora St), a warm, low-lit neighbourhood brewery with a rotating beer list. Then walk to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
37 Flora St, Ottawa, ON K1R 5S1
Insider tip: The seasonal rotating taps are usually the best choice. Ask at the bar and try whatever the head brewer is most excited about.
National Arts Centre — Elgin Street
The NAC (1 Elgin St) hosts its orchestra, theatre, dance and music year-round. Without a show, visit the bar and lounge for views of Confederation Square and the Château Laurier. Check the schedule for student rush tickets, often well under $50 per person.
1 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON K1P 5W1
Insider tip: The Brasserie Les Saisons restaurant inside is excellent for a pre-show dinner. The bar level has iconic views of Confederation Square.
Nordik Spa-Nature — Chelsea, QC
Plan at least three to four hours at Nordik Spa-Nature in Chelsea. The thermal circuit takes two to three hours, with hot pools, steam rooms, cold plunges and outdoor fireside relaxation. Add a meal at the on-site bistro.
16 Chemin Nordik, Chelsea, QC J9B 2A3
Insider tip: Book the evening session (4 pm onward) for smaller crowds. The outdoor thermal pools after dark, especially in cold weather, are extraordinary.
The Mayfair Theatre — The Glebe
There's something inherently romantic about Ottawa's oldest cinema (1074 Bank St). The 1932 theatre still shows films on 35mm when possible, and the programming, including cult classics, foreign-language films, and locally beloved favourites, is miles more interesting than any multiplex. Tickets are under $15. Arrive early for the hand-made popcorn.
1074 Bank St, Ottawa, ON K1S 3X3
Insider tip: Check the weekly programme on their website. The midnight Saturday screenings and occasional silent film nights are uniquely Ottawa experiences.
Major's Hill Park at Dusk
Ottawa's oldest park (1 Sussex Dr) sits directly behind the National Gallery and faces the Gatineau Hills across the Ottawa River. At dusk, especially in late spring through early fall, the view from the upper terrace takes in the Parliament Buildings, the Château Laurier, the Alexandra Bridge, and the entire Ottawa River valley. Bring a bottle of wine and arrive thirty minutes before sunset.
1 Sussex Dr, Ottawa, ON K1N 1J7
Insider tip: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset for the best light. The park is open year-round and is one of the quieter green spaces in the market area.
